Fitness

Regular physical activity substantially reduces the risk of dying of coronary heart disease and decreases the risk for stroke, colon cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Despite the proven benefits of physical activity, more than 50% of American adults do not get enough physical activity to provide health benefits. 25% of adults are not active at all in their leisure time.

Governmental departments and agencies have recommendations on the amount of activity adults and children should be engaging in to stay healthy. Most people are under the illusion that the amount of activity they engage in is enough. Keeping a fitness diary often opens people’s eyes as to how much they are really doing with regards to exercise.

The good news is that it’s never too late to start an active lifestyle. No matter how old you are, how unfit you feel, or how long you’ve been inactive, research shows that starting a more active lifestyle now through regular, moderate-intensity activity can make you healthier and improve your quality of life.
